Normally,
the bigger something is
the easier it is to see.
But not in the case of the "Sustainability
Problem", 1) because it is "overwhelmingly"
large and 2) because we are totally immersed
in and dependent on it.
It reminds me of what I learned in chemisty
about cyanide: if you can smell it, its
concentration is not dangerous; at dangerous
concentrations our sense receptors are
overwhelmed and we do not smell it. So you
need some other way of detecting it.
