Re:
Daily Telegraph's Charles Moore in denial of non-sustainability of Western lifestyles and lifestyle aspirations
Date:  Tuesday 17 October 06

In response to hearing Charles Moore and George Monbiot speaking on today's Jeremy Vine Show on the subject of global climate change and what needs to be done about it, I sent off the following email:

As a well-known, and presumably very intelligent and well-educated former editor and now columnist of the Daily Telegraph (one of Britain's most prestigeous broadsheet newspapers),  listening to Charles Moore defending EVERYONE'S right to own a car and have access to cheap and frequent air travel was very depressing.

With just a fraction (less than 1/5 th) of Earth's population able to afford and enjoy these things we are already placing an unsustainable drain and strain on our planet's finite resources and carrying capacity. The man is completely blind to and in denial of reality. And doing immeasurable harm with the authority he wields by encouraging so many others to remain in a state of "collective denial" with him, which George Monbiot and others are attempting to get society out of.

It would be interesting - and useful! - to know what makes Charles Moore, and those like him, so blind and stupid. Having people like him in such high and influential positions in society is the tragedy, not just  of our times. How do we replace them with men and women better able to see reality and with at least a modicum of wisdom?
